Bihar: Assistant Commissioner, data operator arrested in bribery case

Patna, Oct 6 (SocialNews.XYZ) In a major anti-corruption operation in Begusarai, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau on Tuesday arrested an Assistant Commissioner and a data operator posted at the Commercial Taxes office for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.

The arrested officials have been identified as Assistant Commissioner Prakash Chandra Mohan and data operator Santosh Kumar Jha.

They are accused of demanding and accepting the bribe in connection with official work.

According to officials, the case originated from a complaint filed by Jyoti Kumar, proprietor of Rozi Garments in the Krishna Market area of Vishwanath Nagar.

Kumar allegedly approached the Vigilance Department after being asked to pay a bribe for processing work at the Commercial Taxes office.

Following the complaint, the Vigilance team conducted a confidential verification of the allegations.

After the complaint was reportedly found to be prima facie substantiated, officials planned a trap operation to catch the accused while allegedly accepting the bribe.

The team subsequently reached the Commercial Taxes office on Tuesday and carried out the operation.

The alleged bribe amount was Rs 25,000, reportedly comprising Rs 500-denomination currency notes.

During the operation, the accused allegedly attempted to dispose of the money by throwing it out of a window after becoming aware of the presence of the Vigilance team.

However, officials took both suspects into custody and collected evidence from the scene.

The raid caused a commotion among employees and officials at the Commercial Taxes office.

Both accused have been taken into custody for questioning, and further legal proceedings are under way.

The Vigilance Department is expected to release additional details as the investigation progresses.

The allegations against the two officials remain subject to investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.

In recent weeks, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau has conducted several trap operations across different districts of Bihar, arresting multiple government officers and employees while they were allegedly accepting bribes.

According to an official, the department has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption in the state and is taking strict action against those found involved in corrupt practices.
